Where to begin on Saturday. We spent a good chunk of the day proper on the convention floor. Mac and I started the day over coffee and breakfast. From there we walked around the dealers’ floors while we waited for our group of friends to get ready and in costume.
Once we met up with the group, they did a walk through the commercial dealers’ room. We looked at figures, costumes, and kimonos. As we walked through the floor many people came up to the girls (Kigurumi) and asked for several pictures. I’m sure there are several pictures floating about the net right now, and I am going to start the process of trying to track down a few of them this week.
I will post a separate report for the evening on Saturday as it was as much an event unto itself as the con-proper was.
Cheers

Friday was an incredibly early start for me. I headed off to the airport from home at 3:00 am, arrived there by 3:45, cleared US customs & security by 5:00, then sat around and waited for my flight to leave for an hour and a half.
The flight over wasn’t too bad. A little bit of turbulence, though in many regards some of the best airplane trips I’ve had. When I got to Dallas I met up with Mac, whom was a fantastic host. We got to the hotel, and checked in and put our bags in the room all smoothly. Got my con pass in no time flat (if you ever think about going to Akon, do the pre-reg).
We shortly met-up with Bridget, Haru, and Kaebora. From there the weekend really started to pick up. It always amazes me the the interaction of kigurumi performers with the crowd. Moving through the crowd with the group was slow-moving, though immensely fun. The girls were really a huge hit at this convention. In terms of listening to the crowd, it was very similar to my experiences in kigurumi here. Some people make the “weird’ or “creepy” comment as they pass. But more pleasantly, many people just find it absolutely “cute” “adorable” or “cool”. There also always a large group of people who don’t really say anything. Though the same could be said about myself as I make my way through a con floor. I look at the costumes but I rarely comment.
That evening several of us went for dinner at an absolutely wonderful place called Tokyo-One. All I can say about the food there is fantastic. The service was also excellent. If a drink glass got less than half-full, it was replaced with a full cup. I would highly recommend that restaurant to anyone who has time and 35 bucks for a meal in Dallas.

Well I just got back from A-Kon early this morning. We arrived in Edmonton a minute before midnight, and by the time I got through customs, left the airport, and drove home, it was 1:30 am. There are a lot of pictures that I need to go through, edit, and properly post. For now I’ll drop some teaser pictures here. As well you can go through about 98 odd pictures over on my flickr account as well. That can be reached by clicking the picture in this post.
I’ll post a full report over the next few days.
Cheers

This is a neat little fungus growing on portion of a tree cut-away for a walking trail. I really think this picture looks cool with the “stickies” from the tree bud casings.

As I move along in photography I am becoming more and more interested in light. This shot here was done with the on-board camera flash, and as such the resulting picture had a lot of very hard light sparkles. It would be interesting to see how this scene would have been different with a proper lighting setup with a lot of diffused light, with a side touch of hard light to add sparkle to the water.
